Canon T50 with 50mm f/1.8 Lens

The Canon T50 invited photographers into the through-the-lens world of an SLR without asking them to master exposure first, and weโ€™ve lovingly restored this one so you can focus on the photograph, not the numbers.

Released in 1983, the T50 gives you the beautiful through-the-lens experience of a classic Canon SLR without asking you to choose an aperture or shutter speed for every photograph. Set the lens to โ€œA,โ€ look through the viewfinder, bring your subject into focus, and press the shutter.

The camera measures the light and automatically selects both exposure settings for you.

No complicated dials. No memorizing exposure charts. No wondering whether you chose the right combination.

Just focus the photograph and capture the moment.

That makes the Canon T50 an especially lovely first film camera for someone who wants more than a point-and-shoot but isnโ€™t quite ready for a fully manual SLR. You still get to compose through the actual lens, focus each photograph yourself, and explore interchangeable Canon FD lenses, but the camera takes care of the technical exposure decisions in the background.

Why Youโ€™ll Love It

  • Exposure Made Easy: The T50 automatically selects both the aperture and shutter speed, so you can make beautiful photographs without mastering manual exposure first.
  • The Perfect Step Beyond a Point-and-Shoot: Enjoy through-the-lens composition, manual focusing, and interchangeable lenses without the usual collection of intimidating controls.
  • A Classic 50mm f/1.8 Lens Included: Capture portraits, pets, travel, street scenes, and everyday memories with one beautifully versatile lens.
  • Helpful Focusing Aids: A split-image rangefinder, microprism ring, and matte focusing screen help you see when your subject becomes sharp.
  • Automatic Film Advance: The built-in power winder moves the film after every photograph and supports continuous shooting when the moment refuses to sit still.
  • Easy-to-Find Batteries: The camera runs on two standard AA batteries, included with your purchase.
  • Room to Explore: Change the included lens for another compatible Canon FD lens whenever you are ready to try a wider, closer, or more creative perspective.
  • Restored with Love at Cute Camera Co:ย Every Canon T50 is lovingly restored by the Cute Camera Co. team so it works just like it did back in the summer of 1983.ย ย

Canon T50 FAQs

Clear answers to the questions camera shoppers ask most.

Is the Canon T50 good for beginners?

Yes. It offers the through-the-lens experience and interchangeable lenses of an SLR while handling exposure and film advance automatically. Cute Camera Co. is here when first-roll questions appear.

Does the Canon T50 need a battery to take photos?

Yes. Two AA batteries power the shutter, meter, and built-in film winder, and they are included.

How do focus and exposure work on the Canon T50?

Focus: Manual focus. Exposure: Program automatic exposure. The camera handles at least part of the exposure decision, while you still shape the photograph through framing, timing, and the controls it provides.

What film does the Canon T50 use?

It uses standard 35mm film. Color-negative, black-and-white, and compatible slide films all work; ISO / ASA 25โ€“1600. ISO 400 color-negative film is a forgiving everyday starting point unless the camera notes a narrower recommendation.

Does the Canon T50 lens zoom or change?

The included 50mm f/1.8 is a prime. Canon FD and New FD lenses fit; Canon EF / EOS lenses do not.

Does the Canon T50 have a flash?

External flash through hot shoe; compatible Speedlite automation. When using flash, follow the cameraโ€™s indicated sync speed or automatic flash mode.

How is film handled in the Canon T50?

Automatic film advance; manual rewind. A 36-exposure roll normally gives 36 full-frame photographs; half-frame and multi-lens cameras divide the roll differently.

What is the Canon T50 best for?

It is especially lovely for first rolls, portraits, travel, and moving beyond a point-and-shoot. Film stock, light, exposure, lens rendering, developing, and scanning all help shape the final look.

Can the Canon T50 shoot in full manual exposure?

No. It is intentionally built around Program automatic exposure. You still focus manually and can use different FD lenses, but the camera selects aperture and shutter speed.

Why does restoration matter with a Canon T50?

Light leaks, inaccurate meters, sluggish shutters, tired film transport, and focus problems can stay hidden until a roll is developed. A lovingly restored Canon T50 lets you begin with confidence and spend your attention on the memory in front of the lens.
