Clear answers to the questions camera shoppers ask most.
Yes. You choose aperture and focus while the camera selects shutter speed, making it one of Nikonโs friendliest manual-focus SLRs. Cute Camera Co. is here when first-roll questions appear.
Two batteries power the automatic shutter and meter, but M90 and Bulb remain mechanical. Fresh batteries are included.
Focus: Manual focus. Exposure: Aperture-priority automatic; mechanical M90 and Bulb. The camera handles at least part of the exposure decision, while you still shape the photograph through framing, timing, and the controls it provides.
It uses standard 35mm film. Color-negative, black-and-white, and compatible slide films all work; ISO / ASA 25โ1600. ISO 400 color-negative film is a forgiving everyday starting point unless the camera notes a narrower recommendation.
The included 50mm is a prime. Nikon AI and AI-S manual-focus lenses are the safest straightforward fit; the compact Series E lenses were made especially for cameras like the EM.
External flash through hot shoe; sync at 1/90 second. When using flash, follow the cameraโs indicated sync speed or automatic flash mode.
Manual loading, advance, and rewind. A 36-exposure roll normally gives 36 full-frame photographs; half-frame and multi-lens cameras divide the roll differently.
It is especially lovely for travel, portraits, first rolls, and a lightweight Nikon experience. Film stock, light, exposure, lens rendering, developing, and scanning all help shape the final look.
Not across its full speed range. It is designed for aperture-priority automatic exposure, with mechanical M90 and Bulb settings for backup or special situations.
Light leaks, inaccurate meters, sluggish shutters, tired film transport, and focus problems can stay hidden until a roll is developed. A lovingly restored Nikon EM lets you begin with confidence and spend your attention on the memory in front of the lens.
