#FILMFORYALL: GEORGIA DAVIS

We at Cute Camera Co. believe film should be for everyone, and as such, we've had the pleasure of connecting with as diverse an array of people as one could hope for. To our excitement (be still our film-loving hearts!), the pool of fellow film photographers seems to be growing by the day.

As we grow together, we've also been growing more curious, and so we want to hear more of your stories. We want to find out what drives you, the film photographer, and hopefully help to inform, inspire, connect, and share the fun!

Let's meet Georgia Davis (@filmwithgeorgia on IG), based in Adelaide, South Australia. All photographs were taken by Georgia using their Cute Camera Co. Minolta X-700.

1. How did you get started shooting film? Is film your preferred method of making photographs?

I started shooting film when I clicked #portra400 one day on Instagram! I loved the colour and grain of the images and haven’t looked back since. I’m not particularly interested in editing, and really enjoyed that film made me focus a lot on fine tuning my skills and use of light in the moment to get prints back that I love.

2. What camera and film stock did you use to make these photographs? Do you have a favorite camera and/or film?

I use a Minolta X-700 that I purchased from Cute Camera Co.! The three film stocks that I love are Kodak Portra 400, Dubblefilm Jelly 200 for something fun, and expired Agfa Vista 400 (whenever I can find it!).

3. What has your experience been in the film community? Both in person and online?

My experience with the film community in South Australia has been amazing and incredibly encouraging. Good people shoot film! 😁 And of course, Instagram has introduced me to many inspiring photographers, one of whom I found because they had also purchased a Minolta X-700 from Cute Camera Co.!

4. Is that how you found out about Cute Camera Co.?

I found Cute Camera Co. on my hunt for a serviced and tested Minolta camera, and when I saw the cute camera straps, I couldn’t resist getting one as well. 😁

5. What is your favorite thing about shooting film? Why is it important to you?

My favourite thing about shooting film is hands down the excitement of waiting to get film back. It's important to me because it’s a hobby that keeps me learning, and because looking at old photos out of a box on my family home's living room floor is a valued pastime, and I’m creating my own box full of photos for my future.

6. Do you have any advice for fellow film shooters?

My advice to fellow shooters is not to be too hard on yourself! Love imperfections in the photos and learn something new from every roll  (and catch on quickly that unlike digital, you should try to avoid taking 6 photos of the same scene, it’ll get expensive 😂).
