Olympus XA 2 description

Olympus XA2: The Pocket-Sized Camera That Goes Everywhere

The Pocket-Sized Camera That Goes Everywhere

The Olympus XA2 proved a truly capable 35mm camera could disappear into a pocket until the perfect moment appeared, and we’ve lovingly restored this one so it can be there for all the unplanned favorites.

Some cameras come with a bag, a strap and a whole lot of planning. The Olympus XA2 simply slips into your pocket and comes along for the fun. Its clever clamshell cover protects the lens when closed; slide it open and this tiny 35mm camera is ready for coffee dates, weekend escapes, city walks and all the unplanned little moments that usually become your favorite photographs. The design was so clever that the XA2 won Japan’s Good Design Grand Prize in 1981.

And can we talk about the lens on this camera? It's sharp 35mm f/3.5 D.Zuiko lens gives everyday scenes crisp detail and that unmistakable film feeling, while the compact body and quiet shutter make candid photographs feel wonderfully natural. It’s a lovely first film camera for anyone who wants more magic than a disposable and much less homework than a manual SLR.

Why You’ll Love It

Film Magic on the Go: With its small size and quiet shutter, this camera’s perfect for capturing candid, one-of-a-kind shots wherever life takes you.
Sharp D.Zuiko Lens: Known for crisp and vibrant photos, the XA2’s lens will make every scene look like a mini masterpiece.
Easy-to-Use Focus Zones: Choose from three focus zones, making it easy to capture beautiful photos without getting bogged down in settings.
Adventure-Ready Design: Durable and light, it’s made to slip into a pocket or bag so you’ll never miss a moment worth capturing.
Restored with Love at Cute Camera Co: Every Olympus XA 2 is lovingly restored by the Cute Camera Co. team so it works just like it did back in the summer of 1980.

Olympus XA2 FAQs

Clear answers to the questions camera shoppers ask most.

Is the Olympus XA2 good for beginners?

Yes. Pick a focus-zone symbol and the camera handles exposure; the clamshell makes it quick to carry and protects the lens. Cute Camera Co. is here when first-roll questions appear.

Does the Olympus XA2 need a battery to take photos?

Yes. Two small batteries power the electronic shutter and meter. Fresh batteries are included.

How do focus and exposure work on the Olympus XA2?

Focus: Three-zone focus. Exposure: Program automatic exposure. The camera handles at least part of the exposure decision, while you still shape the photograph through framing, timing, and the controls it provides.

What film does the Olympus XA2 use?

It uses standard 35mm film. Color-negative, black-and-white, and compatible slide films all work; ISO / ASA 25–800. ISO 400 color-negative film is a forgiving everyday starting point unless the camera notes a narrower recommendation.

Does the Olympus XA2 lens zoom or change?

The 35mm f/3.5 D.Zuiko is a fixed prime, not a zoom or interchangeable lens. Choose near, group, or landscape focus zones.

Does the Olympus XA2 have a flash?

No built-in flash; accepts detachable Olympus A11 or A16 flash. When using flash, follow the camera’s indicated sync speed or automatic flash mode.

How is film handled in the Olympus XA2?

Manual loading and advance; manual rewind. A 36-exposure roll normally gives 36 full-frame photographs; half-frame and multi-lens cameras divide the roll differently.

What is the Olympus XA2 best for?

It is especially lovely for travel, street photography, quiet candids, and pocketable everyday life. Film stock, light, exposure, lens rendering, developing, and scanning all help shape the final look.

How is the XA2 different from the Olympus XA?

The XA2 uses simple three-zone focusing and programmed exposure. The original XA uses a coupled rangefinder and aperture-priority exposure, giving more control but requiring more input.

Why does restoration matter with a Olympus XA2?

Light leaks, inaccurate meters, sluggish shutters, tired film transport, and focus problems can stay hidden until a roll is developed. A lovingly restored Olympus XA2 lets you begin with confidence and spend your attention on the memory in front of the lens.
