Yes. Its electronic shutter and meter need a working 6V battery. A fresh battery is included.
Focus: Manual focus. Exposure: Program AE, shutter-priority automatic, or manual. The camera handles at least part of the exposure decision, while you still shape the photograph through framing, timing, and the controls it provides.
It uses standard 35mm film. Color-negative, black-and-white, and compatible slide films all work; ISO / ASA 12โ3200. ISO 400 color-negative film is a forgiving everyday starting point unless the camera notes a narrower recommendation.
The included 50mm is a fixed prime, not a zoom. Canon FD and New FD lenses are the simplest match; Canon EF / EOS lenses are a different mount.
External flash; hot shoe and PC sync at 1/60 second. When using flash, follow the cameraโs indicated sync speed or automatic flash mode.
Manual loading, advance, and rewind. A 36-exposure roll normally gives 36 full-frame photographs; half-frame and multi-lens cameras divide the roll differently.
It is especially lovely for first rolls, portraits, travel, and growing from automatic to manual exposure. Film stock, light, exposure, lens rendering, developing, and scanning all help shape the final look.
The AE-1 Program adds a fully automatic Program mode that selects both aperture and shutter speed. The original AE-1 offers shutter-priority auto and manual exposure but no Program mode.
Light leaks, inaccurate meters, sluggish shutters, tired film transport, and focus problems can stay hidden until a roll is developed. A lovingly restored Canon AE-1 Program lets you begin with confidence and spend your attention on the memory in front of the lens.
