๐Ÿ› ๏ธ How We Grade Our Cameras

No two cameras are identical, every camera is unique, has its own story and is truly a piece of history. We do our best to group them into three cosmetic categories so you can choose the one that's best for you.

VERY GOOD:

A "very good" body will have minimal signs of wear and tear. Examples include slight impurities likeย  worn leather or metal, signs of age on the bottom plate, and dull marks.ย

GOOD:

A โ€œgoodโ€ body will also look nice but have some additional potential cosmetic wear such as spots with discoloration,ย  worn down metal or small scratches somewhere on the body.

AVERAGE:

An โ€œaverageโ€ body will be a more severe case of cosmetic wear like more extreme discoloration or worn down metal, exterior or interior black specs, deeper scratches, or lines in the eye prism.

Pentax 6x7 FAQs

Clear answers to the questions camera shoppers ask most.

Is the Pentax 6x7 good for someone new to medium format?

It feels familiar to an SLR user, but its weight, battery dependence, manual exposure, and only ten 120 frames reward a thoughtful pace. Cute Camera Co. is here when first-roll questions appear.

What film does the Pentax 6x7 use?

120 or 220 film. It makes 6ร—7 negatives and provides 10 exposures on 120; about 20 on 220. It is called 120 filmโ€”not โ€œ120mmโ€โ€”and the backing paper means the roll is loaded and unloaded differently from 35mm.

Does the Pentax 6x7 need a battery?

Yes. The shutter is electronically timed and the camera needs a working 6V battery, which is included.

How do focus and exposure work on the Pentax 6x7?

Manual focus through interchangeable prism; fully manual. The built-in or fitted meter offers guidance, while you set the camera controls.

Does the Pentax 6x7 lens zoom or change?

The 105mm f/2.4 is a fixed prime and a portrait favorite. The camera accepts interchangeable Pentax 6ร—7 lenses using its dedicated mount.

How many photos will I get from a roll?

10 exposures on 120; about 20 on 220. The larger negative is the whole point, but it also makes each frame feel more deliberate than 35mm.

Can I use flash with the Pentax 6x7?

External flash through PC sync; synchronization at 1/30 second. A leaf shutter can synchronize across its timed speeds; focal-plane shutters must stay at or below their stated sync speed.

What is the Pentax 6x7 best for?

It is especially beautiful for portraits, landscapes, shallow depth of field, and photographers wanting medium format in an SLR shape. The larger negative can hold exceptional detail, gentle tonal transitions, and a distinctive sense of depth.

Does every Pentax 6x7 have mirror lock-up?

No. Mirror lock-up was added to later bodies; look for the small MLU control on the front. It is useful for reducing vibration on a tripod, especially at slower speeds.

Why does restoration matter with a Pentax 6x7?

Medium-format cameras rely on precise shutter timing, film spacing, focus alignment, backs, bellows or seals, and controls that may have aged quietly for decades. Restoration gives you a dependable foundation before you commit an irreplaceable moment to one of the rollโ€™s limited frames.
